Position Title: Director of Career Development

Position Accountable To: Executive Vice President

 GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for providing a full range of career development services, implementing and developing the vision and programming of the Center, evaluating and assessing the accomplishment of goals/objectives, and overseeing the staff and daily operations of the Career Development Center.

Provide excellent customer service to our students, donors, sponsors, alumni and all of our internal and external constituents.

 PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the James C. Denneny, Jr. Career Development Center and its mission of preparing students with the career readiness competencies needed to successfully transition from campus to professional life in their chosen career paths. Will also provide similar services and guidance to alumni.

  • Plan and develop career fairs, career workshops, panels, presentations and special events to meet the mission, goals and objectives of the Center.

  • Help students and alumni with developing resumes and cover letters, as well as conduct mock interviews for professional positions, internships and graduate school interviews.

  • Oversee the administration of career management platforms such as Handshake to provide access to career opportunities across the world.

  • Provide individual and group career advising and coaching for students. Advise one-on-one, through in person and virtual appointments to meet the needs of constituents.

  • Develop and implement career development workshops to facilitate the career planning process for students with emphasis on self-assessment, career exploration, internship, and job searching strategies, and a focus on four-year career planning and building career readiness competencies in alignment with the university learning principles.

  • Initiate and develop strong relationships among campus partners including faculty, staff, and student groups, to provide collaborative career planning to students. Conceptualize and facilitate educational workshops and programs for campus partners.

  • Responsible for the collection and dissemination of the First Destination Survey (FDS) in alignment with professional standards.

  • Evaluate progress by utilizing the professional standards for career services detailed by the national association of college and employer (NACE).

  • Other duties as assigned.


 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Prior experience in advising college students preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills demonstrated by experience in building strong relationships with individual students, colleagues, and facilitating groups.
  • Ability to design curriculum for special programs and workshops, and deliver effective presentations in multiple formats with group of various sizes.
  • Strong team contributor skills required. Outcome orientation is important.
  • Project management, leadership and administrative abilities desired.
  • Able to market and promote students.
  • Able to collaborate with faculty and staff

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Extended periods of sitting, must be able to occasionally lift 20 lbs., must have the dexterity to use computer and other office equipment

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Work as a team member with other staff and student assistants to achieve objectives set forth in the mission statement of the University and Career Development Center.
  • Computer literate and experience in software programs (Handshake, NACELINK, MS Office Suite, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Evaluate needs and create a vision for the Center.
  • Maintain resources within the confines of a budget.
  • Set and meet timelines; prioritizes own work and that of staff.
